    Wow
If you feel a little bit better about [gestures wildly at everything around] after listening to this podcast, there’s only one thing to do. Blame Canada

Great break from my typical media consumption
This is a great break from the typical politics and news podcasts that I listen to. I didn’t know much about curling and it was an enthralling story!

    Great - low stakes listening!
Sometimes, you just need a break from the horrors of the world and this podcast does just that. It gave all of the context needed for someone who doesn’t follow curling and the story telling was great. Highly recommend a listen.

    It’s about curling
    Curling!

    It's not a Spoof!
I started listening to this thinking it was a Comedy special, so I gave it a listen. However, it was a beautifully told story by someone who loves the sport of curling. I learned a lot about curling but after watching a YouTube video, I think I have a lot more to learn!

    Great story and storyteller!
Read about this podcast in the Economist ‘best of’ list and was not disappointed. Loved all the characters and how the story played out. I’m now armed with some amazing trivia for next Olympic-watching season.

    WHO KNEW……
That I would listen to a pod about curling!! I apologize in advance…. But I Always thought 💭 it was silly. BUT NOW…. I need to watch curling. You are a fantastic story teller and I was glued to this. I honestly doubt that anyone but YOU could have made it so entertaining!! I have a new found respect and appreciation for you and your sport. Great job!!!!

    Very well made!
I loved listening! Along with great story telling, it is well made. This is coming from someone who has only watched curling during the Olympics.

    Great Podcast
Apart from knowing Scotland invented Curling and are obviously the best in the world, I know very little about curling. It’s a wonderful podcast and all I can say curling needs far more scandals.

    Well done!
A great and very professional job covering such an interesting scandal. I was a curler for about ten years in New Hampshire, USA and knew nothing of this taking place. To be fair, I wasn’t watching much broadcast curling other than the Olympics. You made me miss the great parts of being part of a curling club!

    Great host, great production
As someone who is not interested in sports even a little bit, I can’t believe how quickly I was hooked by this series. John Cullen is a great host, and the slick production value keeps the podcast from getting dry or losing your attention.

    Who knew?
Who knew I could have been so interested in such a pod? As a golfer myself I found the history of curling to be similar, both started in Scotland, albeit hundred’s of years difference. The story of Broomgate is awesome! The production was top notch, and just plain a fun listen.

    Loved it
Being an American, my only exposure to curling is on TV every four years during the Olympics, and I find it oddly fascinating. This story might just be the most Canadian thing I’ve ever encountered…and I mean that in a good way. That the athletes and equipment manufacturers put their heads together to resolve a crisis in the sport of curling—and all without involving curling’s governing body—sets an example of sportsmanship and civility we Americans could learn from.

    The long version
Interesting story but he could have told me the whole thing in less than 10 minutes.

    No equipment standards
How embarrassing for a “competitive sport” to not have equipment standards. The “gentlemen” running the game were just naive and stupid. The stones had weight standards - why not the brooms? Dah.

A lovely polite telling of “Broomgate” that typifies the core of why people love curling. Loved it!

    Well done
Thoroughly enjoyed this podcast despite being an American who knew practically nothing about curling. It was well explained and super engaging.

    No transparency in subscriptions
It was not illuminated that Broomgate e.g. (which has been a good listen) requires a subscription after listening for free to the first four of five episodes. Then it just ends after four, have to go look out to again only to find the final episode is subscriber only. Nope, why not tell me before i start or after one episode.

an endearing scandal and great podcast
I found Broomgate right when I needed it... my normal go-to true crime and politics podcasts were grinding me down, but not to the point of turning to total positivity. As an American, I actually learned about a sport that I've known of, but knew nothing about for years. The interviews and various POVs are great to listen to. I enjoyed this from start to finish - sad that it's over, looking forward to the bonus!

    Bait and switch
Four free episodes to get you in and THEN the last episode is only available to subscribers. Slimy. Even by Canadian standards.

    Not funny
I thought this came up as recommended as a comedy podcast. It is not.

    Great show!
As an American, this was a wonderfully entertaining dive into a sport we are all really intrigued with but know little about. So fun to get a behind the door peak into this entertaining sport. And as someone who attempted curling for the first time last year…was sooo not expecting the athleticism it takes!

    Great show, listen to it
John Cullen is the most underrated podcaster in the business
  • lookimwritingareview
    Wow!
What a great show! The production is on point, the story is compelling, and the writing works. I love a deep dive into subject I never knew about. Hoping I will be an honorary Canadian after the show finishes.

    Great story telling
What an enjoyable listen so far! John Cullen has the perfect voice for this. I’m blocked partys biggest fan and was very excited for this to come out. The story being told is very interesting and was fun to learn about.

    I can’t believe…
I’m about to pay for an Apple Podcasts subscription so that I can get immediate access to next episode of a curling podcast. 😂 Most of what I know about curling I learned in the first two episodes and yet, here I am. 10/10 would recommend.

    Love a good sports scandal!
This sounded so fun and truly delivered in the first ep! I can’t wait to hear what happens next.
  • ufirvwo
Unfamiliar with curling but loving this pod
Interesting topic with a funny host. As a dumb American, the world of curling was mystifying to me but this podcast is great at breaking it down and making the story gripping.
