    Guest hosts bring it down
I am a history nerd and am loving the innovative approach to recent historical moments. Some of the guest-hosting episodes are weaker. The 1979 NCAA basketball host was terrible. I almost stopped listening after that episode. But usually it is excellent. I would recommend getting better with incorporating ads. They just seem to be slapped in at random times - even mid sentence.

    Its not about you, Julia
Just tell me the story, but NOT your story, Julia.

    Love this
The format rules, the interviews rule, the show rules.

    Obsessed with host
Love the host’s line of questioning. Love their style and voice. Great concept. So fun!

Can the host be more lively?
I think the topics are interesting but the host’s voice is so dry and flat that I find myself nodding to sleep. She is reading off a script, it appears, with no inflection in her tone. Snore.

    Please make more!! So fascinating.

    New Fav
This is my new favorite podcast! Interesting, funny stories about events you think you already know the details of. Hearing first hand from someone that was there, so good!!!!

    Drop The Premise
This would be a fantastic podcast if they didn’t shoot for the quirky premise of someone searching for an interview about the event. It should simply cover the event. The worst example of it not working is the episode on the 1979 NCAA National Basketball Championship. It is handled by the classic guy who “doesn’t even like sports.” Yawn.

    THE BEST!!
You Had To Be There is an absolute gem! I love that every episode takes on the challenge of tracking down an eyewitness to the best moments in pop culture history. The storytelling is engaging, and the firsthand accounts are fascinating. You get the best behind-the-scenes stories that you won't find anywhere else. I can’t wait for more episodes!!

    Get to the Story
I don’t care about what you went through to get the story. I don’t care how close you came, yet lost out on the source. Just tell the story….. It’s too much “hear about ME” than the subject matter.

“You had to be there” A Hit!!⭐️
I thought all episodes in the first season of Hi Barr Media , “You had to be there” were outstanding! Each unique and diverse and educated us on various pop culture events! My favorite was the season finale episode on the 1996 Olympics and Kerry Strung’s winning gold medal vault. Keep up the good work Hi Barr!!!! Nice to have entertaining, yet fun and educational pop casts!!

    A cultural tapestry
The reporting, narration and sheer pluck of this podcast is punk. I highly recommend Naomi Karavani’s Moon Landing and Julia Thompson and Teeny Lieberson’s Last Waltz episodes to start…

    Such a dope concept
I’m obsessed! Its such a cool concept - I honestly think it could be a reality show. So cool to hear firsthand stories of these huge events!

    The McDonald’s Theory
“They call it a royale with cheese.” All film buffs and experts know these words. With the famous “royale” monologue, explicit filmmaker Quenton Tatintino took his place amoung the Hollywood Star System. But why?? Many film buffs believe it was due to “The McDonalds Theory”. As a VERIFIED Can expert i can officially state that Pulp Foction PREMIERED akross the streeet from the Cannes MacDonalds… perhaps where the jury had just been enjoying Royale With Cheese of their own?? Well we can’t say for sure. But it’s a krusial part of film hystory… part of the fun of Pulp Fiction is rediscovering “The Madonalds Theory” again and again for all generations of experts to come. Enjoy the movie!

    Fantastic listen! We. Want. More.(!)

    Afraid of being too long
Great concept, good conversations, but it seems to me they are timid about presenting too much and are leaving too much background out in order to keep within some arbitrary time restraint? So only four star review because i want more. Odd…

    Thank you!
Hi, It’s Web from Hi Barr. Thanks for listening to the show. The show is nothing without listeners and we think you’ll love the moments we’re covering this season. We’ve got a number of really fun episodes coming up each Tuesday this winter, let us know what you think! Anyways, thanks again for listening, we really appreciate it!

    Made Me Glad I’m 53
Thank you. Being on the fringe sorta is like “a guest for awhile can see for a mile.” Who doesn’t like a challenge and to walk down memory lane. Well, it’s not always fun but if your over 50, the membership, if you make it, can have nice benefits. We need to listen to people older than us and still hear younger people. There is deep, expansive value in history that’s impossible to understand unless you ask why (not What). Thank goodness there’s a podcast not about mental health that grabbed me instantly. As a concert goer in the 80s, 90s this struck me because people I knew were looking back to this time as “magical.” I didn’t think so but they were right. It is a beginning of a “long, strange “ journey. Interesting beginning with ones end..,

What a great show. If the others are anywhere near as solid as this first one, this is gonna be a huge hit.

    Great Perspective, High Quality
The Last Waltz episode was not only a high quality audio production, the substance of the podcast added great new perspective. I’ve seen Last Waltz countless times but hearing first hand accounts from people who were involved was really interesting. 10/10

    I WANT TO BE THERE
This is such a fun concept and so much thought and care has obviously gone into the show. I love the concept of having different kinds of people become the “reporters.”
