This is the best publishing pod out there! I’m a published author, 5 books by the big 4, and everything y’all talk about is sooo real! I noticed there are few episodes lately but just want you to know I check every week in case something has come out. your podcast has been so valuable to me!!

I appreciate the honest information but find the hosts’ (self-admitted) petty complaints about the “colleagues” in their chosen industry and overall bitter attitude tiresome. If they can’t find any joy in their chosen work and in the publishing industry then pursue self-publishing or do something else.

The good, the bad, and the ugly via HONEST, in depth conversations with people in the know! There is not just another publishing podcast. If you want the unvarnished reality of this complex business, this is THE PODCAST.

This is a podcast that does what it says on the tin - provide fantastic, no-punches-held exchange of information about the publishing industry. I think that is so valuable - especially when publishers hoard information and take advantage of the hope and emotional aspect of publishing, and don’t make the path to financial sustainability (if that’s what you seek via publishing) clear. However. I think this isn’t necessarily a great podcast to listen to you if you’re still exploring your personal motivations for distributing and selling stories. I really disliked the shared laugh in the recent episode about publishers that exist for MFA poets, for instance. I’m not saying this is inaccurate - but rather, there’s not a good line being drawn between predatory or vanity publishing on one hand and the idea that people may write and distribute and even publish for a wider spectrum of motivations than traditional book deal success. Again, none of this is necessarily within the scope of this podcast, and that’s fine! But I wish the hosts would engage that possibility more thoughtfully, as the tone of the show can sometimes perversely reinforce the idea that trad publishing is the ultimate marker that literary life has value. I still like and respect the show, but I wanted to give that warning - this approach might not feel great if you don’t share the goals and values expressed here, however thoughtfully and critically they’re presented, and you should be aware of that as a listener.

Happened upon this after finishing my first book, and it’s been a fascinating look inside the world of publishing. The hosts Sunyi and Scott are both published authors who share their own journeys and shine light on some of the ups and many of the downs that have come with being a published author. Very eye opening and entertaining!

I just discovered this podcast and have been binge listening any minute that I have away from work and kids. I really enjoy both hosts as well as their awesome guests. I also find it ***extremely*** refreshing that any time Scott starts talking at the same time as Sunyi or a female guest, he immediately stops and tells the woman to go ahead with her thought. My husband (one of the other 3 white men in the world who understands how not to interrupt a woman) reads Scott’s genre so I just bought Scott’s book to give him as a gift.

If you are a writer, a reader, or in—or into—publishing at any level, you need to listen. It’s like taking delicious medicine. Sunyi and Scott are delightful.

I have binge-listened since the day I found out about Publishing Rodeo. Wish I’d had such a great resource at the start of my publishing journey. Recommending it to everyone!

Thoroughly enjoy their candor about the publishing industry through not only their own experiences but also their guests! I highly recommend this show to all my writer friends!

Sunyi and Scott are the real deal. Besides the great content, too few are willing to expose their souls (and their industry). For that courage alone: five stars.

My only complaint is I wish they would do new episodes everyday. as a fellow publishing nerd, I love their content so much. I have the same agent as Sunyi. Ok thanks, you guys are the best, bye 😘

I have been bingeing this podcast since I started listening last week. Thank you so much, Sunyi and Scott, for giving up some of your writing time to pull back the curtain from the black box of publishing. I have learned so much and I feel so much better prepared to face my own author journey into the publishing morass. Thank you for providing me a map and managing my expectations.

They lift a veil on the publishing industry by talking to authors-and other publishing professionals and detailing their own experiences-- both the good and painful. Take notes, pay attention. There's great advice here. It's worth a listen.

Hopefully they will have some literary fiction or memoir authors on someday. It’s really interesting but I want to know how what they’re talking about applies when it comes to non-genre writing.

Newly agented so this podcast has really opened my eyes! Love the candor. My only wish/hope is a larger variety of guests (like, more women and queer authors, there has been lots of men so far) but I’m excited to keep listening!

Hands down one of the best publishing podcast out there. Each episode is a wealth of information and the hosts’ perspective and honesty feels like a breath of fresh air.

Not only is the info fantastic and hard to come by, Publishing Rodeo is just a really good listen. The hosts are so smart, thoughtful, and relatable. I want to be their friend :) I think any published or aspiring-published writer can find something of interest here, whatever corner of the industry they’re from. I’m a fulltime self publisher who’s toyed with the idea of going trade for a book or two, and just 10 episodes in, Publishing Rodeo’s already given me a number of factors to consider and research. I found this podcast on Twitter by chance and I’m already 3 episodes in. As a published author (who just parted with my agent and is back in the querying trenches once again) I’m finding the information shared here very helpful and enlightening. The two hosts have a great, down-to-earth vibe and they aren’t afraid to tell it like it is, which I appreciate. Looking forward to more episodes!

I consume a lot of publishing content and this avoids the crowded categories of agents-talking-about-agenting and possibly-relevant-advice. A much needed look into the publishing industry from less common points of view. Love it.
