    Teaching the new generation
This podcast, amongst others, has taught me what I would otherwise be completely ignorant of: our community’s history. Each story just solidifies that we’ve always been here, and forewarns and forearms the next generation with lessons from the past. Will definitely keep listening!

    Hershee Bar
This episode was very well done. I was a regular at HBs (what we called the Hershee Bar). HBs was our home. I was there the last night, in fact a photo of Alomari, my girlfriend and I made the front page of the Washington Post from that night. I live about 45 minutes from there and would make the drive several times a week. I agree with Annette that it is very difficult to be gay in this area to this day. Because of the way Norfolk treated our community, I try to stay away. I do not want my hard earned money to support Norfolk in any way. I have not attended a Pride festival since 2018 bc of the hypocrisy in a city that says we are inclusive and then demolishes one of, if not the oldest lesbian bars in the country. The city council knew exactly what they were doing! Also, no one bothered to make a statement and say, “sorry, it’s a done deal,” or “no, we are not going to change our mind.” They let us continue to appear week after week. Keeping hope alive that there might be a different outcome. Shame on them. Shame on all of them.

    Two Amazing Episodes
Charlene’s and Les Pierre’s - the two best podcast episodes I’ve heard in a long time. Sarah, Rachel, and Jen are doing more than stories about bars. They are shining light on brave, loving and overlooked humans. These two episodes taught me about New Orleans culture, LGBTQ advocacy, and a tragedy that a courageous woman wouldn’t allow to be ignored. The interview technique could not be better. Not all podcasters know how to let their subjects shine. These three women know what they’re doing. Amazing stuff.

    Incredible storytellers
I’ve listened to six episodes of the pod in the past 24 hours. The Cruising team do a great job of weaving together the story of each bar and the town’s queer history. I can’t wait to visit some of places!

    A true gift
I’m not sure there’s anything more important than preserving and amplifying queer women’s culture in this historical moment. This podcast does this beautifully, with such well produced and engaging stories… It’s just like being there. Thank you so much for all you do, and have brought to my knowledge of our culture.

    Something different 😀
The ladies in cruising pod provide an insightful, wholesome view into a culture which I am learning more about. I enjoy my commute to work listening and learning. My only critique is that it should come out weekly!!! Keep it up ladies! Super proud of you gals!!! And can we get more outtakes of Rachel blowing straw wrappers in Jen’s face please? 😂

    Shed happy tears
Such a great podcast! Cruising will bring the lgbtq+ nightlife scene into your heart as you commute to your day job through the suburbs. It is so fun, lighthearted, but also really touching. You might cry. You’ll definitely chuckle. Cruising creates a sense of belonging for listeners who haven’t heard too many stories of people like them. Beautifully spoken, and a really fun soundtrack too!

    Delightful
I’m absolutely in love with this podcast—I discovered it the other day and listened to all of the episodes in one sitting today. It’s absolutely delightful and does an excellent job of noting queer and lesbian history and connecting it to the present. It’s not just about the bars, it’s also about exploring queer female life in America and I love it for that.

A true delight and an actual public service
What a fun podcast! Feels like a combo of a roadtrip with friends + a favorite college class. With lesbian bars closing all over the place it’s more vital than ever that we capture and celebrate this history. Interviews with elders are inspiring. Great theme music too!

    Cruising
Absolutely excellent podcast! This podcast dives into the lesbian culture and how it is evolving. I loved the interviews with the various staff members at the bars and how they describe their subculture to listeners. I also love the historical education that they go over in this podcast. Lesbian culture is rarely celebrated or even talked about so this is something close to my heart. Thank you for doing this road trip and podcast!

    Queer History Road Trip
I’m two episodes in and can’t wait for the others to drop! Listening feels like lucking out and sitting down at the bar right next to a queer elder with great stories to tell, and then getting invited to join an epic road trip. Love it.
