Katie Charlwood is the nerd I wanna hang out with on weekends. As a nerd who specializes in non-human animals, the history of hoomans (esp European hoomans) has never interested me much….cause they’re my least fave animal…but Katie makes me not only interested but ENTHRALLED! Such that I full on BINGED every single episode shortly after discovering her stuff. Now I finished them all and I need her to drop everything and make more. Checking out Murder Most Irish and others she suggested in the meantime…

    Yes, more please
It’s a hard time to live in and sometimes I don’t want to get outta bed but I listen to “Who Did What Now” and I want to drive to work. This podcast is like having a chat with your bestie who is also a history professor and makes you want to hear the tea about history. This lady is a joy to listen to. Thanks for all you do!

Katie Charlwood, where have you been all my life? I just stumbled upon your podcast and I love it! I started with your first episode and have made it through episode 30 so far and I cannot get enough. You are so witty and entertaining while also teaching us about all kinds of interesting and important historic people and events. Keep up the good work! — Lisa from Louisiana

Loved the 40elephants and wives episodes.
Makes me want to watch or listen to more on all of the wives. And 40 elephants should totally be a tv show!

    More refreshing then refreshments.
I zone out listening to other history podcasts. Not w/ Katie not w/ this podcast. It is fine edutainment, like a beta dollar store history version of church(startalk w/ Neil deGrasse Tyson). that coming from me is among the most sincere and highest compliments. it is so difficult to find things that keep my attention for more than...

    Awesome Podcast!
I have learned SO much from this podcast, and I’ve had a fun time whilst learning, because Katie is a delight! She has a masterful way with words, weaving together tales from history in an incredibly entertaining and engaging manner. This podcast is awesome. How awesome? All of it. “Who did what now” is all of the awesome.

Phenomenal host, a fav in my regular listening
I can’t recommend this podcast enough. Ms. Charlewood is an excellent researcher and storyteller. Episodes are a wonderful mix of knowledge, wit, intrigue, context and commentary. I especially enjoy how she brings her subjects to life as full, colorful characters beyond the ‘what did these people do’ in history but ‘who were they as people’. Especially female and nonbinary characters. So refreshing to feel these subjects as 3D when film and other media often treat them as 2D compared to male counterparts. Well done! Thank you for your quality work!

    Another Fabulous episode!
Bigotry tiramisu—that’s going to be a favorite phrase now. Katie has an amazing way with words and it feels like you are sitting for a chat (sitting comfortably) with an incredibly intelligent, well informed history harlot. (When are you coming to California?)

Hands down my favorite podcast ever.
I love everything about this podcast. It is entertaining, informative, funny, and just all around delightful. I feel all the feels while listening. It has it all; scandal, drama, hilarity, and more than a smidge of colorful language. Katie brings us history in a way no one else can. She is intelligent and funny. I could go on and on, but in short, it’s perfection.

    Phenomenal Hostess, Engaging Content!
I can’t recommend this podcast enough. The hostess is clever, respectful, funny, knowledgeable, and engaging. Information is relayed in an intriguing and digestible manner. I am especially impressed by more recent episodes, not because of content (the content has always been stellar), but because Ms. Charlwood has seriously upped her sound optimization game. The sound quality is now as spectacular as the podcast content itself! Well done!

    Interesting and Fun
I found Katie on social media first and just enjoyed her truthful and unapologetic information. How serious she is about her field and making sure her corner puts out good information for all. Finally listening to her in long form via podcast just gives more of the same. Thanks for the work.

    Awesome Podcast!
I love listening to Katie; she does her homework and is a fantastic story teller. I’ve never been interested in history until I started listening to this show. Thanks for keeping it real, Katie!

    An entertaining and educational gem
This podcast and the host Katie are an absolute gem!! I’ve learned more about women in history through this podcast than I have all other places combined. The episodes are somehow simultaneously relaxing, funny, entertaining and educational (no matter how horrific the events being described are). I’d give 6 stars if I could!

    Release the Orcas!
Okay, I have loved Katie’s podcast for years at this point and use another platform to listen on. Recently, in the 129th episode, Katie said “billionaires should not exist” then put her two cents in saying “release the orcas!” This inspired me to review here as she is a comical genius and the revolutionary we need right now! <3

    An engaging storyteller!
I really love your delivery and that you take time to list your sources right at the top of the podcast. I just started listening a few weeks ago and can’t wait to listen to more episodes!

    Love
I love the passion, detail, sarcasm, and calling history for what it is while calling out the frequently inaccurate and unequal telling of history.

    The best history podcast!
I always look forward to Katie’s next podcast release! Can’t wait to see you in Boston, happy you laughed about my nearly flying cat 🤣

    Regina like Vagina
Ok so, the most recent episode mentions Regina Canada (pronounced Regeena as one would expect, right?) My partner and I once went to a Regina Pats match. The Regina Pats (in case you don't know) are the Regina Canada hockey team. And we were entertained beyond description to hear the announcer introduce the REGINA (like VAGINA) PATS! And now every time the name Regina is said my brain supplies the delightfully bright tones of a sports announcer exclaiming Vagina pats! You're welcome

    Funny, real, down-to-earth. AND informative!
I found Katie on Instagram and was so excited that there was more to be had! She is funny, witty, dry, and despite over-apologizing is actually pretty unapologetic (positive). Katie’s ethics are solid, humor is dry, and transparency refreshing. The history is niche, fun, and full of lively details and storytelling. Fantastic job! These are the kinds of history lessons that I just can’t get enough of.

    Smart and entertaining!
I came to the podcast via Katie’s Instagram reels. I love that the longer format of the podcast allows for a deeper dive. She packs so many details (and asides), it’s a lot of fun to listen to.

Maybe not the best for an MRI
I recently found your podcast from IG and have listen to a few episodes and LOVE it for so many reasons - it’s sourced, you’re witty, and I often have a personal connection in some way. For the not typical part of this review - I had to get an MRI today and they asked if I wanted music. I asked what my choices were and they said “Spotify” so I asked them to see if they could Find your podcast (it was the first thing that came to mind). Next thing I knew I heard your voice which was awesome and calming, but I then panicked because I realized - you are hilarious and laughing in an MRI is not a great idea. I managed to keep it together for the 30 minutes of “Nuns on the run,” but it was a struggle. Thanks for helping me through it though because I was super nervous.

    Fantastic!!
I love listening to Katie while I ride the bus to and from school, as well as while I work on crafts! Amazing retelling of historical events/stories!! I often find myself snapping along at some parts. Baby is so adorable in both her gust appearances!

I’ve totally become obsessive listening to the show while I drive all day. Katie is hilarious, charming and brilliant. Watch out, you too will get hooked on this show. Thank you Katie, you’ve opened my eyes to a lot of history I thought I knew and am happy to find out I was wrong.

    Making history interesting!
I stumbled upon Katie by accident in my IG feed talking about mother Teresa and immediately added this pod to my library. I plan on binging all the episodes now.

    One of my favorites
I love how Katie recounts history. I have a fairly extensive list of podcasts I follow, but skip some of them frequently when setting up my queue. I NEVER skip this one. Not only does Katie teach me things I didn’t know, but she also manages to do it in a way that isn’t dry and boring. One of the things that keeps me coming back for more is that her values align with mine - in other words, she cares about the well being of people in general, whether they are like her or not. When you live in the US in this day and age, you have to find your tribe, no matter where they are in the world. Thanks Katie! Please don’t change a single thing, and keep handing out book recs.

    Willowbrook
I was directed to listen to this episode from a Threads conversation on the topic of disability justice through history. Willowbrook was far from the only institution of its kind but came up a lot in the conversation. I’m glad I checked out this podcast because I found the information to be researched and compassionately delivered, with the personal outrage communicating how criminally inhumane what happened there was. Thank you for the education.
