Improv #237

Break the Dice: The Improvised Campaign is an improvised fantasy adventure where the fate of our heroes rests on the roll of a 20-sided die. 20 is a spectacular success, and a 1 is a critical failure. New episodes are posted fortnightly (every 2nd and 4th Monday of each month)!

I have listened since the very first episode aired, and I've not had a podcast make me laugh quite so hard so often before!

Another great improv to add to your favorites
Recently started listening to the podcast and I’m going through the back log first. So far it’s been great! The improvisers are very expressive and have great voices, plus they have good chemistry with one another. Improv podcasts are my favorite, and, since some of my favorites are either over or on their last season, I was happy to find another that is still going strong. Looking forward to listening to the rest. (The first campaign’s weird Uncle-Brother scenario and the improvisers’ reaction to it was hilarious!)

    My new favorite D&D Podcast
I listened to the whole first season at work yesterday. Two of my favorite podcasts are The Adventure Zone, which is a d&d actual play show, but I think BTD fixes a lot of the pacing issues of actual play, and Mission to Zyxx, which I believe is the new York UCB, and I think their production is on par with that. Actually structurally I think BTD works better because of the dice rolling element. The fact they have been doing this so long shows, there's none of the wobbliness most shows like this have while they're finding their feet.

    Bone Swallowing Fun
I was never into RPGs and came across this pod by accident to be honest. Since then I’ve gone as far as starting my own d&d campaign with friends. Whether they’re submarining with Doc or swindling trapped souls to flash them, these characters are hilarious. Never a dull episode.

    The highlight of my week
The show is the highlight of my week. Idk if that says a lot about me or the show, but let’s go with the show. I look forward to the hilarity and suspense every week it comes out.

    A treasure and a delight!
I am so thankful for this podcast! It has everything one could want: fantasy, comedy, fully realized characters, and emotional roller coasters. It has brightened my life in these dark times and look forward to every show.

    Fantasy Fun. UnForgettable!
Break the Dice is a marriage of fantasy roleplaying and theatrical improv. There are other podcasts that have used this approach, like One Shot. The thing that sets BtD apart is the commitment to the theatricality, with less of an emphasis on the game mechanics. As a result, the show feels more like a narrative podcast with the surprise elements of die rolls organically thrown in. Performances by committed actors sell every moment, and A+ sound design makes it really immersive. Try it out.

Welcome to the center of town champos
Dear New Friend- Congratulations. This is now your favorite podcast. Join Allen, Maria, MJ, Tyler, Tyler, Tyler, Tyler and that other guy— Hunter maybe?— as they take you on exciting, hilarious and poignant Dungeons and Dragons adventures. These kids do it with a twist though— it’s all improvised and always dependent on the roll of a twenty sided dice. This show has it all! There’s ethos, there’s pathos, there’s clawpaws, there’s ethos. So come on, subscribe already and start enjoying the adventures of Aelar, Phaelan, Craebaepplae and all the rest of these brave warriors. Subscribe to their Patreon and you get a free giant manga sword that comes out of your chest. Thanks for your time. Sincerely- Scoots Muhgoots

Darkly hilarious and off the wall
Really funny show. The players are clearly experienced and used to riffing off each other and have a ton of fun, which is infectious to listening ears. Highly recommend!

    My Favorite Podcast
What a wonderful suprise to come across this Podcast. I heard it mentioned on Minnesota Public Radio when people were describing what they were doing while being sheltered at home and one of them mentioned listening to this podcast. This podcast is hysterically funny and very well executed. There are moments where I am laughing so hard I am in tears. Also, the episodes are easily relistenable. I think I am on my 3rd run through of episodes one and two. I am excited for the next episode, please keep them coming!

    Dangerously funny
Be careful if you like to work out to podcasts, because I almost dropped a 65lb dumbbell on my head laughing at this.

    Great times!
Very fun to listen to. It’s some great storytelling and comedy. Well produced, funny performers, that doesn’t take itself too serious, which just adds to the enjoyment. Can’t wait for what they come up with next.

    Improv focused Dungeons and Dragons
I’ve listened to all the classics, TAZ, Critical Roll, and NADPODD, but Break the Dice really offers something new. I love that the group is focussed on creating a hilarious adventure with loose rules and a focus on comedic improv. I can’t wait to hear more!

    SUBSCRIBED.
This group is incredible. Beautiful live piano underscore, highly experienced improvisers, very funny and clever storytelling. If you ever have a chance to see them live in Minneapolis, don’t miss them.

    What a blast!
This group does such a great job with this podcast. It’s so fun to listen to and it has the relaxed feel of a group of friends goofing off playing D&D, but with all of the extra, awesome story-telling elements you expect from a professional podcast. Can’t wait for more! This is truly a gem!

    Witty, nerdy, hilarious
First episode is so much fun! I’ve seen these guys do the show live, and this podcast perfectly captures everything that makes it great and then some! Even if you aren’t a fan of DND, this show will make you smile. Can’t wait to hear more!

I’m biased in favor of the Beards, but these folks are funny AF.
