Love the show for the well-balanced opinions and hypothesis plus the wealth of information you consistently give us. Allow me to overly simplify things for a second; a program (not a team) has two goals: (1) win the regular-season conference then win the conference championship, and (2) maximize the number of playoff games any given season. I’m assuming a slightly different approach, philosophy, resources, types of rosters, coaches and now GMs, and so on are required to maximize the opportunity to achieve each goal. Over the next 3-5 years, which programs do you see configuring/distributing/focusing their resources to achieve (i) mainly just goal 1, (ii) mainly just goal 2 and (iii) commit to both goals? Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.

Josh brings a pretty level headed nature to his CFB analysis and he’s funny. This show is a great way to stay in touch with all that’s going on in CFB which is no easy task in this era. Big fan.

Josh is similar to Kirk Herbstreit in that he will appear to be the good guy, man of the people, against all the evil forces ruining college football; unfortunately he is part of the problem. He will take any chance he gets to condescend fans of teams outside of the SEC/B1G and tell them why they should accept the reality that their school has no chance at a national title and should be celebrate that reality. Josh would have you believe that just being a member of the SEC or Big Ten makes you superior to everyone else regardless of individual schedules. Josh is an enemy of fans outside of these two conferences, especially the Big 12.

I’ve been listening to Josh Pate since July of this year. Straight up informative. Straight up an advocate for the sport I love. Straight up awesome perspective on College football yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Straight up entertaining!!! Josh Pate for Commish!!!

Pate ironically spends the first 15 minutes criticizing those who called him out for being wrong, then proceeds to tell everyone how he knows all about the past and coming week… I call him the Tucker maddow of CFB

It’s in the title it’s the best show to listen to for everything on collage football year round day in day out stay on top of it!

Already enjoyed the show but as I drive thru Ga and you helpfully explained to get out of the passing lane unless passing to your fellow Peach Staters you are now my hero in Ohio! Josh, I think you are the least biased of the podcasts in the south, and I may be completely wrong but not sure why Indiana is completely not talked about when overrated lower level sec teams get props for playing mediocre … maybe you’re playing to your southern audience but still love the podcast and follower forever!

I don’t typically listen to Pate as a podcast but love watching him on YouTube. I think he’s doing it better than anyone right now. Such a refreshing shift from pretty much everyone at ESPN at the moment (outside of McElroy - I like his show).

You absolutely smoked the take about the refs. SPOT ON! Officiating is part of the product we are consuming. The fact that they treat it as the secret sauce is absurd. Love the show. Keep grinding. #PATESTATEFREIGHTS

Thing let’s me all hyped up

The irony of this show is Pate thinks he appeals to the sickos but in reality all the content is super top line and best for the casuals. Might not want to insult your actual audience (the casuals) while the sickos opt to tune in elsewhere for impactful info

Not a very comprehensive review of the teams and-the upcoming games. Very mediocre with shallow knowledge of the game and the teams. Listen to the Joel Klatt podcast and see what excellent knowledge of teams’ strengths and weaknesses (and reviews of upcoming games) sounds like.

Have reviewed show as elite before but wanted to express my disappointment on a couple of off-hand remarks on federal relief for storm victims in North Carolina. When you say the show doesn’t get political, then don’t make insinuations about these things without full explanation. Not only off-putting but intellectually lazy. It was pretty disappointing.

Loved the show. Then being sly, he drops in a political comment about Washington not taking care of storm victims. His lack of research in this area, leads me to believe that he may be lacking in other areas as well. Very unfortunate.

Brother I love your show. You are sensible, reasonable and have an inside take on the game that is unmatched. That being said, I started listening to hear you, I don’t want to hear Cole Cubelick. I’m a fan of the show. It’s not my favorite CFB show but it’s good. But I absolutely hate the ad reads, whether it’s the nearly 5 minute FanDuel ad or the equally long and annoying Academy ads. Not a fan at all of those.

Best show in sports…and it’s only college football

I’ve been giving 3-star reviews to all my favorite college football podcasts lately. The content is always excellent but the 3 minute ad reads for FanDuel is horrifically longwinded and irrelevant to those of us who aren’t degenerate gamblers.

This is the best college football show out there and it’s not even close.

Listened got a few months and couldn’t take it anymore. You can tell who gives him info and lets him come to practice by how he slobbers all over the same programs and coaches constantly. The know-all attitude and talking about his own rankings like they’re worth something in the sport gets so old.

Nice pick with QuikTrip. Roller grill taquitos + grilled cheese + clean bathrooms = hard to beat

Listening from Ames iowa, mailbag question. Would a 9-3 year be disappointing for Iowa State??

Josh Pate has positioned himself as the king of the college football nerds, and I proudly count myself among his football-nerd subjects. This is by far the best national college football podcast, which is amazing given the fact Josh doesn't even have a co-host to help move the show along. I used to watch parts of the show on YouTube, but now I listen to the whole show in pod form.

Best CFB show in all the land.

My interest in the show is waning. The takes are well thought out, and the show is great if you are only interested in the top teams in the SEC, Big 10, Clemson and FSU. Perhaps that’s where the ratings are. I have no interest in the so called playoff, and the show is centered on the teams that might qualify. I’ll check in as the season gets closer to see if anything has changed.

If he didn’t beg for likes, subscribers, and 5 star reviews after ever segment I might rate it higher.

This guy loves the game. Straight up. He’s the best I know of who manages to keep bias out of it (except maybe Iowa state lol) but all jokes aside, seriously a great show for any college football lover, Josh is a great host

JP, I only wish you loved Nebraska even half as much as you love USC or “The Game”. 💔 I understand we’ve moved to irrelevancy over the past 10 years (besides our fans and sellout streak) but there is still so much rich history with this program, including some outstanding rivalries that were killed by the evil that is conference realignment. But, I hope you can soon find out that Nebraska Vs Iowa has the hatred of border states that feels like it’s naturally been around for 200 years (I’m a Nebraska fan who lived in central Iowa). Also, Colorado at Nebraska will be a freaking electric game of games this year, there’s a lot of Nebraska fans who are really ticked at our old rival. Also I’m only 20 so I’m bloodthirsty for some good Nebraska football. GBR 🌽🌽🌽

DJU has the best single season performance as a QB since Jameis’s Heisman in 2013 and leads FSU to the National Championship game against Oregon. Love the podcast!

One of my fav CFB podcasts! Disclaimer: I also submitted this question to the Cover 3 mailbag, but I really want Pate’s take too, because I think it’s fun to think about. Cheers! Mailbag question: With conference expansion and the elimination of divisions there is now potential for there to be three undefeated teams in the same conference heading into conference championship weekend. For example: with 16 teams in the SEC this year Texas, Alabama & Ole Miss don’t play each other in the regular season and could all go undefeated. Obviously the potential goes up as you expand past 16 teams. In such a scenario, how does conference championship participation get decided? Or playoff seeding? Wouldn’t we end up with another FSU-like outrage situation if an undefeated team doesn’t get to play for a first round bye? Would such an event be enough to slow or stop the hunger for future conference expansion? Thanks!

Is a great listen. Good football know. The courage of his convictions. Professional courage. He’s not protecting his job with mamby pamby takes. That paper pop gives him the confidence to bravely call out whomstever. 😜
