Rebuilders

136

Rebuilders is an initiative started by Red Church to help churches, leaders, and believers grapple with the issues presented by an increasingly secular society. We firmly believe God is preparing to move and is rebuilding His Church with particular building blocks to enable her to flourish in a post-Christian, secular world.

    Insightful and Inspirational
Mark has become a go to for me for insightful cultural analysis and to discern how God might be moving. I have read most of his books 2 or 3 times.

Rich Leadership for the Church in Our Time
Incredibly thoughtful discussions about what’s happening in the world and how the Church is being called in our time. Sober yet resiliently hopeful the conversations are well informed by voices across the globe and history.

In trying to be apolitical, reveals its own racist politics
I have long appreciated Mark’s ability to summarize current news affairs into broader critiques of the secular culture wars and the shifting world order. But as someone who is from the Global South, the incredible whiteness of this worldview in recent episodes, particularly referencing the Middle East, has been incredibly disappointing. There is no acknowledgement of the continual meddling of the western powers in the Middle East that has led to current-day destabilization — the words “US imperialism” or “colonialism” are never uttered. The statelessness and displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and West Bank is never referenced, nor is Israel’s status as an apartheid state, verified by many humanitarian — even religious — organizations. It is hard to see this as anything other than racism, the continuous dehumanization of those dirty brown “terrorist” Others, while their actions to resist are labelled “barbaric.” You all have lost your way and forgotten Christ in the Rubble, the nativity scene last year from the church at Bethlehem. I will not be seeking your wisdom from hereon.

Great podcast to make sense of the world
I love the systems and historical analysis of this podcast. It allows us to fit the current news in broader trends. Which helps provide comfort in this crazy time.

    Insightful, Compelling, Enthralling
I’m an avid podcast listener and this one is my favorite. Right mix of insight with deft cultural analysis and covering of global trends, all wrapped in wise counsel for church leaders. I appreciate that Sayers is sober and honest without being cynical which is too common with Christian podcasts. I don’t feel negative after listening to Rebuilders, I genuinely feel encouraged and built up.

    Immense Gratitude
Mark and his team have been a breath of fresh air as they have humbly and thoughtfully dissected world events through the lens of scripture. All of their analysis is anchored in how this can inform our prayers and postures for those living as citizens of the Kingdom of heaven. As one living in America, I’m grateful for thoughtful, calm, steady voices that have a greater vision beyond the reactionary, lazy, binary left-right paradigms that engulf so much of American commentary right now.

    Rebuilders
100% love this show. I recently started listening and am working through the whole history. Terrific. One tiny request. Mark, could you stop using “sort of” as your only qualifier? If you can do that, then you’ll be perfect! And Liddy is great also. Essential to the show. These words come to you from an American Catholic deacon. God bless your work. You offer so much for me to think about in my context.

Must listen for our cultural moment
Every Christian needs to lean into every word! You’ll be helped and most importantly encouraged. “For such a time as this”

    Prophetic and Hopeful
Mark has the gift of illustrating how the good news of the gospel shines light into the cultural darkness or grey areas in our postmodern and increasingly secular culture. Rather than pointing fingers to one political party or movement for our cultural woes, Mark helps us interpret this unique moment through our own brokenness and need for salvation. I leave each session inspired and hopeful for the work we have as believers to follow in the way of Christ.

    Big fan, stateside
As a student of much of what Mark presents (thoughts on human secularism, post modern culture, post-Christian culture, current events, etc.), I find myself thankful for this unique and well thought out perspective

    So validating - thanks Mark!
It helps so much to hear the words and logic put to this unease of the grey zone!

    Highly Recommend
This podcast takes everything you’re feeling/thinking/sensing about culture and the world at large and puts perfect words to it. It’s eye-opening, clarifying, illuminating, and assuring — always ending with a vision of hope for the follower of Jesus.

    Mark is the best
There is simply no one better than Mark Sayers at analyzing and synthesizing world and cultural events for the Christian to understand. I highly recommend.

    True Cultural Interpretations
I found this podcast as a result of listening to This Cultural Moment, then coming to the end of those episodes looking for more of the same. So many of the questions I’ve had lately around what on earth is going on have been answered, not so much directly but indirectly through the lens Mark Sayers looks through. One of my constant prayers over the past couple of decades, with SOOO many voices and opinions that seem persuasive and convincing while at the same time contrary, has been “Lord, who are you speaking through in these days?” For me, Mark Sayers has been one of those voices that the Spirit has pointed to as one who truthfully interprets the chaotic cacophony into something that makes sense.

Thankful for the insights of Mark and Liddy as they answer the questions we are asking about where we are and where we maybe going as Christian leaders in our complex and networked world. I’m learning so much from my little spot on the globe in rural America. Please keep these insightful podcasts coming.

    Excellent podcast
This is a must for all those who have been hurt by a church, but still have a sense that God was working in the midst of it. Mike Cosper does a great job of explaining why the church with a tough nosed often brutal pastor can lead to transformative life change but still allow leadership issues to get out of hand. I am finding the story cathartic as I consider my own church past and hope that I have in the bride of Christ. About Mars Hill church two things are true. The leadership failure went online too long and God worked and saved many. Thank CT and Mike Cosper for your effort on this. I am four episodes in.

    Smart, Faithful, HopeFULL
I am a local church leader in Tennessee, USA and have been so encouraged by these conversations. Not only do the hosts break down for us the super complex cultural frameworks of our day, but they draw us to a deeper dependency on the Spirit of God. Instead of simple cop-out solutions, Mark and the team draw clear lines from events and trends affecting discipleship in the modern world to the wisdom of Scripture and the work of the Holy Spirit. I always walk away creatively charged with more understanding and greater hope in what the Spirit is doing through humble, faithful people.

    Very worthwhile but
I’ve gotten a lot out of listening to this. It is helped clarify and give insight into the challenges we face. I highly recommend the podcast. My only suggestion is I wish Mark would stop saying “it’s really interesting” so often. It’s a bit distracting.
