I have always liked you, Michael, even way back when I was a Republican before the summer of 2015. But listening to your short take this morning got me steamed. I am a white woman and I worked my tail off for Kamala Harris alongside many just like me. How dare you put us into a block and assume that’s how we all think and act. You might say that people have been doing that forever to Black people and it is true, but that doesn’t mean you should do it. So don’t. I also thought your guest was mean and snarky about Biden and the pardon this morning. He’s a good man, he was a good (maybe great) president, and he did the right thing about the pardon. He’s probably depressed and worried like the rest of us about the coming 4 years. One star off for today’s Short Take.

I appreciate the honesty, integrity, common sense values and especially the humor that Michael brings to the table. He elevates the discussion above the reactionary parties so that reasonable, thinking people can engage and consider the topics without the knee-jerk click bait anger responses that dominate most political media. I just finished listening to his interview with Timothy Snyder (“On Freedom”) and am going to listen to it again, this time taking notes. It was an eye opening discussion, chock-full of wisdom and quotable statements.

Michael Steele has, as a Never-Trump guy, opened my eyes to a new appreciation of Republicans. The Weekend show with Simone Sanders-Townsend and Alicia Menendez is the best news show on MSNBC -AAAAND the 3 hosts of the Weekend Show should replace Joe Scarborough and his morning show!!!!

Since I am a retired Midwestern white woman, Elie routinely dynamites new pathways in my brain. I appreciate his perspective, personally and systemically, about the election. The threat of retribution was there throughout the campaign and didn’t sway voters away from Trump. I would be naive to think that actions taken now might change minds. It makes my heart hurt. But I am going to keep figuring things out, like what I can do about it. Thanks for the podcast, Michael!!

I have so much respect for Man of Steele! I trust his insights, political experience, and his honesty. Thank you for sharing your perspective and helping your listeners understand how important it is to be informed on not only USA issues, but the world. We’re all in this together and it’s so vital to know who’s actually for democracy and not party.

Since the 2024 Election, I have turned off the news and have been avoiding the online chatter. The idea that the majority of Americans believe a Presidential Candidate who wishes to be a Dictator and is a convicted Felon should hold the top office in the United States. To top things off his previous Presidency was an absolute train wreck! This really hit me hard. I firmly believe by putting one’s head in the sand will not make any situation go away. The first discussion I elected to listen to following the election was the Podcast Michael Steele had with Rick Wilson. I found it to be a very straight forward assessment of why the Democratic Presidential Ticket was lost. I was able to focus on the conversation without having 3 to 4 little boxes of all different guests giving their opinions of the situation. It was a well done one to one blunt conversation and is worth one’s time to check out the episode.

Please stay with us and keep trying to help us. We can’t let our democracy die.

Michael Steele is great. He gives BLUF all with supporting reasons. His podcasts also give both the political and everyday implications for why Trump and MAGA Republicans pose a threat to all of us.

Loved the beauty shop. When trumo loses, the efforts to rebuild the Republican Party will be intriguing to watch. I’m a lifelong Democrat but sincerely hope that a party representing conservative viewpoints can be resuscitated. One that believes in democracy, the Constitution, is reasonable and willing to compromise on the critical policy issues facing us. I look forward to watching how the courageous Republicans who have come out against Trump and MAGA accomplish this.

Michael, I love your insights and cutting commentary. Just an idea - IMHO and for your consideration -suggest that Kamala go ASAP to Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina NOW to show compassion and bring Federal aid in the wake of hurricane Helene. Would be good for those folks and great politically. Nothing like a crisis to showcase her compassion and leadership - putting country (in red states to boot) over politics - and thereby maybe swing enough undecided votes in those key states in the upcoming election. Sadly, her family’s story is not uncommon, as the story you shared of your own father attests to. What makes it unique is that such a profoundly damaged and corrupted man rose to the ultimate position of power, where he could be corrupted absolutely. To break the chain of intergenerational trauma, our society must destigmatize mental health care and make it accessible to all.

I stumbled on this podcast (from the Bulwark), not knowing anything about Michael Steele. In giving a glowing review for this podcast, I have to first say, what a cool guy this is. I admire how he has clearly read the entire book of whoever he is interviewing, and I admire how likable he is, and I relate to his centrist point of view. I’m blown away by how fascinating the books are, whose authors he speaks with. (Books that would otherwise sound too academic and dense for me to ever attempt to personally dive into.) He connects to the humanity in whatever subject he explores. Thanks for being one of the good guys, Michael. You’re really helping bring light into this world.
