Such a Beautiful Tale of Magic, Emotion, and Tension
This was the second Dungeons and Dragons podcast I’ve listened to but the only one that I’ve truly fallen in love with. From the beginning to the rapidly upcoming end, this story helped my life in so many ways. This tale is more than a game shared between friends and family, it is an epic of rapidly evolving character arcs, worldbuilding, and battles of epic proportions. I’m twelve, and constantly love the fact that they keep it clean and family-friendly. I’ve also enjoyed going back and relistening to the beginning as I wait for new episodes to drop, and I will be heartbroken when the story is finally over. To everyone who helped make this story a possibility, I am so happy tales like this exist. Thank you for everything.

    Awesomeness!
Extremely fun to hear friends and family playing together. Just starting to listen but I already enjoy having a newer player play as it helps me learn how to teach other new players as well.

My son listened to every single episode in the last few months. He was so invested and obsessed! Can’t wait for the next season.

    I love Thump!!!!
This podcast is the best I have heard in my entire life. Thump is my favorite of the party so I was so happy when he came back. Also I am waiting for the new episode so please get it out. Keep it up Stack o Dice.

    My questions
Peter should be chased by his goddess for misrepresenting her. Though she was parted from both Justice and Mercy, so she can’t understand those foreign laws. The Iron Stag must be a mighty angel of the “true god” (unlike God, who can not be shattered.). Why is there no giant ape in the jungle? I don’t hate this fascinating fantasy world, you made.

    Thump is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am at episode 132 and I was so sad when Thump died and now Thump is back and I’m so happy he’s my favorite character!!!! :)

    Amazing
This podcast is family friendly and is fun and entertaining. It also helps that there is a new player so me, my sister and my dad(my dm) can relate to what is happening. I also like the way the DM uses details and personality’s in the characters so you feel like you are in the story or at least at the table. Lastly, I enjoy that the editor doesn’t cut any of the conversation that the actual people have.

    Great Podcast!
One of the few clean podcasts I’ve found, and it’s very good. I found it through TFTGGW (Tales From the Glass-Guarded World), and I have loved every second of it. I couldn’t tell you about the audio quality, because it’s something I’ve never really paid attention to, but I’ve been told it gets better as it goes on. Keep up the good content, Stack o’ Dice!

    Great family friendly d&d pod
This has become our families podcast of choice when traveling and it’s inspired us to run a campaign with our family. For myself the podcasts strength is in its balance of mechanics, fun, and roleplaying. It’s not super serious but never sacrifices the credibility of the story in doing so. As mentioned in the subject line it’s also the best family friendly tabletop rpg I’ve found to listen with our 9 year old son. Sound effects are great! Some good humor both out of character and in character. One of the things that has surprised me is how funny Michael is. (The player of Wamberbash (sp?) Some of his dry humor (mostly out of character) is delivered perfectly and is a reminder that ultimately the point of playing is to have fun! Keep up the good work!

Just finished season 3 and determined to catch up!
I introduced my son to D&D. Now he teaches me about it. He introduced me to this podcast and demanded that I listen and I’m so glad that he did. Love the podcast, the cameraderie and the world building. Like Bash, I miss Thane but enjoy the development of Farynn. Enjoyed watching Meridith start with Tyra as a rookie player and now turn into a D&D vet. I agree with Michael that this could be turned into a book (actually a series - with potential offshoot series!) Rhett - you are talented! Make it happen! Thanks for telling a great family friendly fantasy story!

    Great
Other than make believe heroes, this is the only clean dnd podcast that I have found and enjoyed. It is different from standard dnd, especially with the lack of magic, but it brings the story together making it different. They have a cool story. Only thing I would recommend would be to get one more player.

    Family friendly fun
I love this podcast. This podcast has an incredible storyline with interesting characters with depth! It is hard to find a clean dnd podcast with good role play so when I found stack o dice I was really excited. After I listened to this, I started dm’ing even though I have never played before! Great podcast, good role play, and clean humor.
  • Insomnia is fun
    Amazing
I had started out slightly bored but around the 5th episode I was blown away at the quality change it became so good that I decided to actually play the mystic class

Far and away my favorite DnD podcast!
I’ve listened to several DnD podcasts, and for my tastes this is far and away the most entertaining. I wasn’t sure what to expect from an unheralded podcast featuring three family members and one of their friends, but by midway through the first season I was hooked! The sound quality starts out a little shaky but by the second season the combination of sound effects and sound quality is better than many podcasts that can afford to hire an audio engineer. Most importantly, Rhett, the DM, is an amazing storyteller and his world building is Tolkienesque. If he ever writes a fantasy novel I will be first in line to preorder it. The player characters all have compelling backstories and personalities and the players all do a fantastic job of playing their characters rather than playing to “win.” All around, a superb podcast. Stack o’ Dice will have you laughing out loud, crying, biting your nails, pumping your fists, and breathing a huge sigh of relief - all within a single episode. Thank you for creating so much incredible free content!

    Great chemistry
I love the chemistry between the players, from the very beginning - when the characters aren’t even sure they like each other.

    A great clean actual-play podcast
Stack 'o Dice is a clean actual-play podcast, mostly using D&D 5E, though there are a few one-shots using different systems. I'll summarize how well it does on the things I care about: -Audio quality: Starts out very good and becomes excellent. There's music from Battle Bards, and heavy use of sound effects. The DM and players sometimes speak slower than actual-play podcasts to which you may be accustomed, and there are sometimes gaps between people speaking that may be longer than you expect. As a result it sometimes feels a bit slow, especially at the beginning. It's easy enough to increase the playback speed in your podcast app, though this will adversely affect the music. -Players: The players are invested in the story and good at role-playing. They don't really have character voices per se, but the character personalities still come out, and there's a good mix of male and female. Sometimes those character personalities can be grating or irritating, but real people are like that. The players are focused on what their characters would do, and aren't trying to shove maximum jokes into every minute of the show (as some other actual-play podcasts do). You're going to like Peter, Tira, Bash, and the other characters that move through the story. -DM: Rhett has a good handle on the story, does a great job improvising in response to unpredictable player actions, and has created a consistent campaign world. They don't quite stick to rules-as-written, particularly at the beginning, but they do get better about adhering to the rules with time. The DM is thoughtful and patient, and good at keeping things on track. He does an excellent job managing a lot of NPCs, each with their own personalities and objectives. -Clean or explicit: There's no swearing, but there is violence that is sometimes graphic. One player character frequently sheds his clothing, but it's played for humor rather than for anything salacious. There is some scatalogical humor. Most families will find this podcast to be family-friendly, especially in comparison to other actual-play podcasts. -Story and setting: The story is a standard BBEG-wants-to-take-over-the-world affair, but even if it's not unconventional, it is well-told and clear. You're never confused about what is happening or what goal the PCs are trying to accomplish. The campaign setting has diverse cultures, and it's clear the DM has put effort into developing them and making them different from each other. The players are given some ability to add to each culture as well. There are many actual-play podcasts out there, and this is easily better than 95% of them. I wish all actual-play podcast creators put as much thought and effort into their shows as Rhett and his friends and family have put into this one.

    Great dm inspiration
Stack o’ dice is my 2nd favorite podcast ever, mainly because of all the inspiration it has given me. Creation corner is my favorite part it shows you how they have made the world. Pretty much just a great podcast overall.

    Amazing
This is a amazing podcast and I love how it’s family friendly. I’m 12 years old and I’m always trying to find good dungeons and dragons podcasts where the players don’t curse every 10 seconds. this is one of the best Dungeons & Dragons podcast I’ve ever listened to thank you for doing it

    An Updated Review
Even though Rhett told me not to, I couldn't help myself and decided to update my previously (somewhat critical) review with a more accurate impression now that I'm over 100 episodes into the podcast. Firstly, in regards to my previous critiques: Rest assured that the audio quality improves dramatically as the show goes on and that before too long it is absolutely superb! Seriously though, this podcast is excellent, and will have you laughing and cheering often. The DM Rhett is truly a master at telling a fun story while engaging the players in a way that is not often seen in D&D podcasts. Through both the main podcast, and the special episodes, he also provides a lot of very helpful story building and world building advice that is incredibly helpful for growing DM's (such as myself). The characters themselves are also extremely well made by all of the players, and they quickly develop into fascinating additions adding both depth and humor to the story, and into people that you truly care about and want to see succeed. Outside of character they also just seem like incredibly kind, funny, wonderful people. Even though there are some cast changes throughout, Catherine (who joins in episode 79) proves to be a fantastic addition herself, and provides a fun new dynamic to the cast. It's also fun just to hear Michael and his wife bantering outside of character. In conclusion: This podcast is great and you should listen to it.

    Totally worth listening to!
When I started this podcast, they had over 100 actual play episodes and about as many discussion shows. It was a daunting archive to get through. But once I started, I didn’t want to stop. Stack O’ Dice is great fun and will make you feel every emotion. The world of Vardalon is richly detailed and immersive. The DM does an excellent job of bringing this world to life with his cut scenes, descriptions, and lively NPCs. The players are passionate about their characters, and as the story progresses they become more and more confident in their role-play abilities. It’s fun to grow with them as the game builds. The sound quality improves quickly, and the added layers of sound effects and perfectly-timed music adds a rich dynamic to the story. All in all, I am glad I took the time to catch up with this fun, creative, family-friendly D&D actual play. There is nothing I have heard in the game that I would be embarrassed for young children to overhear. It’s a great show and well worth listening to!

I made an Apple account for this review
For the record, I hate Apple and their products. The fact that I'm writing this review voluntarily on iTunes speaks volumes! That's how much I love this podcast!! I've been listening to this fun little podcast since earlier this year and I wanted to wait until I was completely caught up to give my review. It's a fun, family-friendly podcast with lovable charcacters and a compelling narrative. Critical Role was my gateway into podcasts/livestreaming actual-play, but Stack o' Dice is a great bite-sized way to enjoy D&D. Highly recommend!

    Excellent family friendly adventure
Our family has been listening since the first episode. We love the storytelling and how everyone shares in the narration. The first few episodes we’re a little rough, it quickly became a top-notch production.

    One of the best
Been a fan of the podcast since I found it a long time ago, there were only 4 episodes out when I first started listening. The cast is amazing and bring great things to each of their characters. The DM does a great job of storytelling and I find myself at times forgetting that I’m listening to a real play podcast instead of a story being read from a book. Keep up the great work

    A Gem
I listen to a number of actual play podcast and was looking to add to my library and came across SOD and glad I did. Great world and story development by DM; PCs are fun and odd in such a great way. Excellent audio quality. Can’t wait to binge through the episodes. Definitely worth a listen if you enjoy both roll and role playing!

    Awesome Storytelling!
I recently finished the second season of this podcast, and It has been phenomenal. All of the episodes were extremely entertaining. I’ve really enjoyed seeing Wumberbash, Peter, and Tyra grow as their story has progressed. The worldbuilding has also been very inspiring for me in some of my own writing. I can’t wait for season three! Keep up the great work!! 😁

    Just like reading a book
This narration is just like reading or listening to a fantasy book👍

    Great family fun
This podcast is the most honest storytelling D and D podcast I have listened to. The commitment of the players and the DM to developing the world and all within it is fantastic. I have binge listened to the entire first season and am beginning the second season. I can’t wait to see where the story goes. The cast clearly has a great time together and have allowed their relationships in “real life” to create a fantastic adventure. Family friendly as well. Thank you all.
  • Tildore
    Bash
This is a fun D&D podcast that becomes great the moment you hear Womberbash, or Bash for short. Bash is to Stack O Dice what Urcle was to Family Matters. It is very fun and inventive. Probably my favorite D&D podcast.

So much fun to listen to.
I very much enjoy listening to this podcast. It’s an ongoing tale of a D&D game played by a group of friends. I’m a newcomer to D&D so the explanations throughout and the structure of the show really helped me gain an understanding and appreciation of the game—but the simple fact is even if you not know anything about D&D at all you can simply sit back, hear an interesting story, and enjoy the role-playing of a group of people who are having fun at what they’re doing and who like spending this time together. Kudos to you all and keep telling the story!

    Lots of Fun!
I’ve been listening to Stack ‘O Dice since the beginning and it just keeps getting better. It’s nice to hear a DM and players develop the world and characters in thoughtful ways, not just mow their way through battles. The family friendly atmosphere is wonderful. My kids have been listening, too. It only took two episodes before they asked when we could play a game of our own. Keep up the great work, guyze!
