Finally, Some Women in Horror Fiction!
This show is amazing! I am so happy that it is a mostly feminine cast as I get really sick of all the male dominated horror fiction out there. Very well written! But you left us on a cliff hanger! Come back to us with the next season!

    Starts well
Started out very good! But by episode 14 I felt like I was losing the thread and I didn’t care. Read someone else stopped at episode 22 so figured it’s not worth the slog. Pacing is very important.

    Interesting premise, but....
The premise of the story being told is interesting, but it moves way too slow and seems to drag at times. I find myself losing interest and not caring what happens to the characters.
  • Rico_de_Pico
    Interesting but incomplete
A great premise, but the episodes get weaker as you go, which makes me think the creators were creating the story as they went instead of starting with the end in mind. In other words, good idea, poor execution.

    Gratitude
Thank you and thank you for a story and a clever approach that presumes we have at least a fair degree of intelligence. Just discovered Mabel and am very impressed and pleased. Going to feel it out a bit more before I commit by Patreon (have made that mistake before) but so far really good.

Probably good I’ll try again later
Made the mistake of listening to the first episode on the anniversary of my grandma’s death so that was kind of a bummer would not recommend you do that probably great any other day of the year I’ll probably try it again later but right now it’s just a real bummer

    Poetic and Lyrical But…
Like many I found this one well written and acted but intentionally opaque and slow. With a little editing it could be great… it seems plot development was not a priority…

    👀👀
I loove mable so much! this podcast feels like it was made just for me lol. it might be one of the most beautiful and well written horror/romance stories i’ve ever heard. every episode is absolutely beautiful. it reminds me a lot of the magical realism and surreal nature of fariy tales and myths, which i’m sure is intentional. great job :)

Very confusing and not in a good way
I wanted to love this podcast. I made it to episode 10 and I have no idea what is going on. This is a do not finish for me

    Great random recommendation, so glad!
I don't even know where the recommendation came from, someone threw it out in a conversation and I was just wrapping up what's out of The Far Meridian & thought I'd try this. SO GLAD! This is...lush and unnerving and so, so engaging. I have theories...all of which are likely wrong...but oh the fun of each leaf of this tale unfurling. Adding later: I kept thinking I’d be ok if this show chose to wrap, but I also miss it! I live this podcast & wish there was more!

Complex, Engaging, over and over again
This is a show I can finish and immediately return to episode one of. Yes that’s partially because I’m so confused that I learn more and discover more each time, but it’s also the atmosphere, the goosebumps, the absolute humanity of it all. This podcast is a companion to me and I love it for that.

    Naw.
Starts strong, then goes downhill fast. I listen to a TON of fiction podcasts, and this is one that I finally did myself a favor and stopped listening around episode 15.

    Excellent
Thoroughly enjoyable. Binged the whole thing in a few days.

    Magical
So far, I’ve felt curious and concerned, spooked and creeped. I’ve felt delight and wonder and oh, gosh episode 8.5 is gorgeous and made me weep. This podcast is a wonder and a puzzle. Love love love it!

    Great until now...
Will update once I’m finished but once it gets to episode 14, and especially 16 that I listened to, I have no idea what’s going on. I didn’t know what really was going on before but at least could create imagery in my mind as to what Anna was doing and where she was, and I was so enthralled I never wanted to turn it off for the night. Now I am lost and none of the words make any sense and I’m spacing out because of it. So now I’m even more lost. Hoping it gets better!

    Outstanding podcast

    Stop the tantrums
OMG too many beeps, too much screaming and way too many tantrums. The story line started strong and then disappeared. If the beeps don't drive you crazy, the ridiculous story will.
  • Podlistener4484
    Different, not for me.
Can’t believe it took me 22 episodes to figure out that nothing was going to happen that interested me. Maybe this is for other peoples tastes clearly not mine.

    haunting
i have been listening to this podcast since november, and by that i mean — consistently listening and relistening to my favorite episodes. i am beyond hooked and adore this podcast endlessly. my absolute appreciation to becca and mabel for making this. if you’re on the fence about starting this, let me tell you! it’s worth it 110% percent.

Why do you punish those of us with normal hearing?
I really liked this podcast until it got to the point where the screams and feedback noises that were far far louder than the rest of the show became regular. Don’t even try to listen with earphones if you value your hearing. Very disappointing as this didn’t begin until well into the series when I was really engaged. I’d love to listen to the rest but I can’t. Check your volume and I’ll return.

    perfect in every way
Beautiful, incredible, fantastic, this podcast is fantastic, LISTEN TO IT— it is, at its heart, about two lovers, but also about every other sacred thing. It’s so good. I love it more than words could describe.
  • Kangaroo Cowboy 25
    Oof. So very very bad.
The voice acting is atrocious. The writing makes zero sense. One of the worst podcasts I’ve listened to in a while. Not sure why it’s so recommended.

    Beautiful
One of my favorite fiction podcasts.. the writing is so beautiful and poignant and the way they use myths/fairy tales is so original
  • Snagabax
    Ummm What?
So I’m nearing the end of the Podcast and I’m wishing I gave up on it after Season 1. Season 1 was interesting and was excited to see where it goes. The. season 2 went no where. It was just Mabel Rambling and Rambling Ughh ... then it kinda picks back up to something of a plot, but it’s just really characters Ramblings, Bickering and yea that’s it.
  • jayebelle
Great story and so well told!
This is a small jewel. Mostly it’s a one-actor show with a really haunting, original script. It’s not goofy or silly, no action hero figures, just a spooky other-worldly mystery, and a meditation on female friendship. Love the acting. Thank you for this podcast!

    Better and better
I keep thinking this is going to devolve into something I won’t enjoy, or that the story will lose me, but I’ve been hooked from the beginning, and the sound design, excellent writing, and whole original concept of telling a story through voicemail is incredible. Can’t wait to keep going :)
  • Kai RM
    Riveting!
Fascinating, original storyline with brilliant sound design and good acting. It just keeps getting better and better. Love!!!

    A classic and a favorite
"Mabel" is one of those amazing podcasts that I can listen to again and again and always hear something new. Literary without being inaccessible, this beautiful and creepy tale is a MUST listen. Let it take a hold of your imagination and get swept up in "Mabel".

Extremely annoying and makes no sense
Nothing in this podcast makes sense and there is no real plot. The narrator leaves countless messages on the phone of the grand daughter of an elderly woman she is a care giver for. The voicemails are just nonsensical paranoid banter. I thought it would get better after a few episodes but I listened to the entire thing and it never got better. Don’t waste your time. Reminds me of “the box” but much less interesting and no real plot.
  • waluigi is haunting me
    love this so much butttt
fantastic throughout all seasons, inspired me to look into irish folklore more, cant wait for more content :) editing this to add that i really wish the uploads were more consistent :/

Had a good start but then...
If you like someone screaming in your ear and having no idea what is going on, then this is the podcast for you!

i have never loved a story like this
families, memories, one (1) ghost house, scottish folklore, queer romance... honestly, what more could you want? the writing is fantastic, poetic, at times very poignant, sometimes i have to pause the show for a moment to reflect on a line. the sound effects and music are on POINT, very believable atmosphere. not all of the details of the story are given to us since it is told in voicemails and i quite like that - perhaps that is why some people are confused by it; some knowledge of sidhe going in is probably helpful, but no doubt anyone who has a previous interest in fairy stories is going to Get It. i must say i also enjoy the actors, especially mabel. mabel and anna's relationship is beautiful. this story is unlike anything else out there. thank you thank you thank you.

I’m on about my 5th or 6th listen at this point. I keep coming back to it. This podcast changed me, on the inside. It’s my favorite piece of fiction (?) that I’ve ever consumed.

    Lost me
I really was hopeful with this podcast. It lost me. I have no idea what is going on (I stopped at ep. 18). The plot doesn’t go anywhere. The narrator (“Ana”) needed a better actress. Honestly I just got frustrated with it so decided to find a different podcast. Not for everyone I guess.

Ditto to who said “every other podcast is cancelled”
This literally is the best podcast. Fans of the superb “Gone,” as well as “The Far Meridian,” “Palimpsest,” “Mirrors,” “Earth Break,” “Vast Horizon,” and “Spines,” would do well to check this out. Solitary, thoughtful, beautiful, tragic, nuanced. Every episode feels like a rich, full meal that would take most audio dramas multiple episodes to induce the same sense of...of...utter *satisfaction.* These words I’ve said and so many, many more. Plus it’s super queer which is, like, YAY.
  • Jax11486
    Great at first, kinda dragging
I stopped listening around episode 20, I may come back to it. The imagery that she’s creating with the different worlds should be a book in my opinion but I do enjoy the spooky sound effects of the podcast. Living in an apartment complex with neighbors below and above me, I’m not sure if the noises are real or the podcast. Then, I think my neighbors are probably freaked out hearing my Alexa screaming and thumping 🤔😂😬

    Every other podcast is cancelled
    This is the best one

    Weird format
I really wanted to like this but the format was annoying. I couldn’t get past the second episode. All of the beeping for the answering machine in the first ep was really irritating and they lost me about two minutes into the second one. Sounded like it had potential but I feel like they were trying to be too artsy with the storytelling.
  • therobi
    Started off okay
It started off as a thriller I could get wrapped up in. It quickly became nonsensical screaming, rambling, and arbitrary noises. There’s literally no plot. I tried to give it a chance, but realized I let 6 episodes play in the background and hadn’t even missed anything with the story so it’s time to unsubscribe and delete.

    Amazing and spooky
This show really draws me into the world. I love Anna and Mabel's relationship.

    Haunting, strange, creepy, and beautiful.

    Its amazing!
The perfect mix of magic, terror, love and story.
  • nicafromnowhere
Great start through about 20 episodes
Then the characters lose their appeal. No denying the writing is smart and intentionally stylized but it’s sometimes weighs the characters down.
  • Rainbowdashnyan
Haunting and addicting. I absolutely love this podcast. It’s so simple, yet so enchanting. Can’t wait to hear what happens next.
  • sylvia3018
    lovely
Mabel has such a magical, strange, eerie feeling to it. Great to listen to late at night. The beginning of season 2 did drag a bit, but they’ve really found their footing again (around ep 35). In ways excited when I see a new episode!

    I thought it was good
I like the general storyline/plot but I hav two admit, season three was pretty confusing; with all the yelling and gibberish. I would recommend it but can you lower the volume on the screaming a tiny bit? I listen to this playing or working at home and it’s kinda too loud? Thank you!
  • KateCrest
    Dark, dreamy, delicious
If you love gothic tales, eerie horror-adjacent love stories, haunted houses, fae tales that draw you in and double back like the best, most dangerous magic... listen.
  • emhernan
    Bleh.
It was really good at first. After Season 2 started, it got confusing and it’s basically Anna and Mabel just screaming and fake crying back and forth. Every episode sounds like a really bad poetry slam. The plot just stopped and now it’s just over dramatic. How many times can you say the word ‘rot’ to describe something? Also, the sound quality is terrible. You can barely hear it, you turn up your headphones, and then they start screaming. I’ve had to rip my headphones out more than a few times.
