LaSalleHSObjective / EntertainingNo one like referees but referees - yet - a sports podcast through the lenses of an official makes it more objective and honest than most other podcasts available. Additionally they are entertaining and at times they get side tracked - which is beneficial for the listener because it can break it up and make it more fun.

TCO 217OU vs. KSULove the podcast Dean! One question I have regarding the onside kick attempt at K-State OU was around the topic you all discussed for blocking the player into the kicked ball. I completely agree that the Rule regarding forced touching is a non-issue. But 1 item that I haven’t heard brought up was the block by the second OU player is initiating a block prior to his team is eligible to touch the kick. Which is also a reviewable aspect. As a BJ these are items I have to focus on in these situations. So I would love to hear, or read your thoughts on that aspect in this play situation. Thanks Again for the great content. @johnjr512Terrible audioThis weeks show was terrible. The content is ok but the fact that someone’s phone goes off every few minutes is ridiculous. As a father I understand the need to keep the phone around but having it go off repeatedly is crazy. Clean it up guys. You’re truly acting like officials and not taking care of the details.

joshproppGreat Listen! With so many sports related podcasts out there it refreshing to find something with a different spin on sports and culture. For the past few weeks, Good Calls has been educating and entertaining my family and I as we drive from sports, school, and activities. While the focus is on professional NFL football, it is the commentators that deliver a much more meaningful experience as students of the game and as good human beings. My two young boys enjoy listening to the stories about a call or a situation, but our inspired conversations usually turn to discussions about growing into great young men and following the rules of life! Thanks for the wonderful show. Keep it up!

daigs25Keep it upThis is a refreshing take on the technical side of the game and the sometimes not so technical side of life’s social norms. Keep up the good work Dean and the Team!

The humble Sofa RefGreat topics!Nice job! Really enjoyed the talk about pass interference replays and the on-side kick. Listening to Dean explain things is like talking to your lawyer about something. You can be fired up about some situations but Dean always comes back in with the clearest explanation in a calm non biased manner that you can’t help but accept and appreciate. I think as an informed but still casual football viewer I would say that adding in replay for PI was a good change but the league completely blew it when they set a higher standard for reversing a call. Anyone who watched that play in the Giants game knew without a doubt it was a missed call. Heck my fiancée who barely watches football could recognize cheating by the defender. I guess my point here is the league has to recognize that they lose the faith of their audience and they probably unfairly punish the officials by forcing them to not do the right thing because the standard is too high. Either that or the refs are just too proud to admit mistakes and are revolting against replay. I don’t know how crews are evaluated but perhaps the more situations where calls are over turned correlated to less opportunity for post season work and therefore they are not motivated to do the right thing? I will say that I have see more offensive PI calls recently and I applaud that. I think the NFL was falling into the same trap that the NBA got into where the offensive players were gaming the situation and pushing off at the last moment to make space and complete the catch much like a basketball player using his free hand to push the defender while trying to drive the lane. On-side kicks was a spot on topic as well. The league has a responsibility to keep the players safe so I absolutely appreciate the rule change from that point of view. The other side however is the audience still wants to be able to cling to hope of a comeback no matter the odds. America loves the under dog mentality. So this much like change for regular kick-offs where almost all of them are touch backs are somewhat ruining one of the hallmarks of the brand...hope for the unexpected against the odds play. There was a game this year and in years pass where teams have done a drop kick. This got me thinking. If the teams could get around the limitations of the on-side kick. I don’t know the rules about this but might be a good follow up topic on future shows.

PayMegaTronHow did this happen?!I’ve been watching and or playing football for over 32 years. I’ve idealized coaches, players, and even announcers. After listening to this podcast 3 or 4 times now I have to say Dean, you are my all time favorite ref! Keep up the great work bro! Great analysis, entertaining, and you got love for Detroit! Go Lions!

ca$h homieDEZ DROPPED IT 🏈I enjoy listening to the perspective from someone who actually knows what they’re talking about! Would love to hear more on the impacts of these controversial calls, as they relate to those that bet on football games, and how would the legalization of sports betting change (if any) going forward. Definitely not me, but some people that bet football on a regular basis want to know. Keep up the good work Dean, Travis and Audio Guy!!

SFHCOMMISSIONERThis is terrificAlthough Twitter explanations are really good, sometimes you need some nice in-depth discussions that give you the time to sit and think on. You can see the same thing on TV but podcast situations are the best because when you’re driving in your car you can sit and think about it as the time goes by driving. by the way Dean, you need to have Vernors as a sponsor!
