Forget What You Can't Remember

10

Featuring a zombie outbreak and a strange sort of doomsday, but really focusing on how coming through those experiences into utopia and freedom effects different people, Forget What You Can’t Remember is an exploration of the human mind under pressure. It’s about relationships, memory, opportunity, and dealing with their loss - and other kinds of loss. Forget What You Can't Remember is a spin-off novel in the same universe as Lost and Not Found (also available on Podiobooks.com) which doesn’t require you to have read that book to understand it.

    Great novel for philosophical arguments
Utilizing mainly dialogue, the author lets is glimpse a world completely different from our own. In a perfect utopian city, could you recover from a life-breaking experience like a zombie apocalypse? If you could remember that there was something you forgot, how far would you go to return things to the way they were? What happens when an incredibly smart superhero is faced with the ethical and moral ramifications of his actions? What would it take for a utopian society to be perfect? Would you trust it when you got there? All these subjects and more are discussed in this great audiobook. The author isn't the best voice actor, but at least he's consistent. Brady is very annoying because his voice calls to mind a whiny teenager and I just can't see him as anything else. This distracts from his character somewhat. This story, for all of it's great thought experiments, doesn't pass the bechdel test. While there are more than one female characters who have speaking roles, they never talk to each other about anything other than men. (First chapter) Though Mary and Loraine are very smart, articulate and forward-minded individuals, they lack any sort of reality to them. Their character seems to be included in their scenes as a means for the "real people" (the men) to have someone to argue their political and ethical arguments with. TL;DR: the story is not what you are expecting, no matter what you expect.

    No staying power
Th story as it is written seems slow, and the voice acting is nothing to brag about. It is free... But with so many great podcasts out there I think this one could use some work before being put up. I never met a zombie story that I didn't like, until now, made it to 7.

    Voice acting is annoying
Some characters are great, some characters are so unbelievably annoying that it makes it hard to listen to. The narrator voice is uninteresting and dull. Some of the characters are unreasonably slow and creepy. Not creepy like a good horror movie, creepy like revulsion creepy- which is a shame because the story is actually pretty good. This is a podiobook though - and the voice acting is part of it.

    Pass this one.
I would suggest dropping the annoying whiney voice you had for a few of your characters. I am kicking myself for listening to the end. I am not even sure if it would be considered a zombie type of book when you have a super hero swoop in at the end. Not to mention, I would suggest to try to stay on topic next time. I understand this is fiction, but going from a zombie out brake to some other world with an invincible hero type??? I would suggest this book not be chosen. In fact, I should bill the 3rd for my time spent listening while scratching my head and wondering why the story was going where it was going.
