Dead To Me

54

A podcast about the Grateful Dead in the same way that Friday Night Lights is a show about football. Hosts Casey Rae and Eduardo Nunes explore a profound array of cultural intersections and how the band’s legacy ripples through our contemporary reality in fascinating and often unexpected ways. It’s never too late to get on the bus.

    Grateful Fan
I appreciate the love of the Dead. Seems that each show got increasingly too chatty and jokey and often negative. More about what the hosts didn’t like. You have critiques of albums where you don’t even discuss some of the great songs on the album and just focus on what you don’t like.

    Great
Really insightful podcast can’t wait for more episodes. I feel like the terrapin/ shakedown street ones should be interesting

    Casey ruins it
Casey really sinks this podcast. It seems like he’s so concerned with delivering his thoughts in the most erudite and verbose way possible that he’s unable to come up with anything but platitudes. Whether he’s extemporizing or reading off of index cards prepared while sitting on the toilet the night before the recording of the podcast, everything he says is clunky and overwritten, like a Kevin Smith screenplay. And good god is he pleased with it.

You know, that’s just like your opinion man...
The content is great and the hosts and guests have some great insight into Deadlore, but I could do without the sometimes excessive song drops. I’d rather get some more speculation and dissection of the band/music minus the sometimes unnecessary sections of songs. I thought Europe 72’ deserved its own episode to really do it justice and the music just had me scratching my head wondering why it was there for the most part. I do love the podcast though and am grateful for the deadication you have put in to all the episodes, just see some fat that could be trimmed to make room for some more hearty anecdotal goodness. Please take this with however many grains of salt you wish, it’s your own trip after all.

    There’s always one....
RockyMountainWay tells us to avoid politics, a common conservative yelp from our right leaning DH family members. Very difficult to do given the hippie origins of the GD and Dead To Me makes a heroic effort to fairly flesh out the intricacies of their political leanings. I think RockyMountainWay’s complaint is unfair and really misses the context of the entire podcast. DTM is attempting to illustrate the complexity of the Dead, warts and all, and does a fine job of it. Avoiding the politics of the eras that they inhabited ignores the culture that incubated the Dead. Excellent thought provoking podcast that covers so many angles of a rock and roll defining band. Very well done.

    Great Twist On The Dead
This is such a unique take on incorporating the Grateful Dead into a podcast. The topics are really thoughtful and thought-provoking. I love how this digs into some totally different areas and sheds a light on some stuff so many of us maybe weren't aware of. Keep it up!! Can't wait to hear more!!

    Great Dead Discussion
You’ve found the place for great Dead discussion. I’ve learned fun facts and enjoy topics and guests. I’m glad this isn’t a place to listen to concerts. We all already know where to find those, right?
