    Ridiculous
This entire story, and every effort from all media to paint it as some mystery involving the parents, was infuriating from the start. No amount of creepy music, timelines that validate human memory is faulty, or questioning where Kate was for 10 min (???) add up to anything. From DAY ONE: someone at that hotel was involved for money. And trying to sell papers, podcasts and documentaries is just low. Props to this podcaster for trying to weave an interesting story out of thin air.

    Great analysis!
A lot of work went into this you can tell. Just an excellent podcast overall. Pat Brown, in the last episode was OUTSTANDING! She didn’t mince words, and what she had to say, was giving the case a dose of what it needed - reality!

    Excellent journalism
Excellent work! Very interesting podcast that attempts to uncover the truth. I really appreciate how detailed and questioning and searching this was. I have now turned my attention to the follow up podcast called They’ve Taken Her. I have hope in my heart that justice can be brought to the situation thanks to Mark Saunokonoko

    .
Pretty biased, sensationalized and irresponsible podcast. I don’t know what happened but no one should base a podcast on a sleazy, grandstanding, disgraced cop who tried to cash in on a tragedy. One of the only things I am sure of is that the cops did a poor job with the original investigation and there are serious issues with Goncalo Amaral.

This is really good even if you thought you knew it all
Even though I thought I knew it all, there are still nuggets of info to learn here. Good job! Binged the whole thing. Wish it would go on longer. At least until it’s solved ...

    Amazing and Interesting
Pulled me in and I couldn’t put it down !!! I binged all episodes !!

    Enjoyed it very much.
Everyone saying that the podcast is speculation is right. The reasons for that is the McCanns *won’t answer questions* and changed their stories. No one apart from the McCanns know exactly what happened to Maddie. This whole case has been a disaster since the minute she went missing. I enjoyed the podcast very much and think it is a lot more in-depth than most podcast and documentaries on the case.

    Love this podcast
It shows a good view to most sides of the investigation. Sad story about a little girl who vanished.

This Podcast is better than the Documentary on Netflix!
The title says it all. Better researched, more informative, and objective than the documentary. The documentary works to exonerate the McCanns and this podcast tells a very different story. Far more believable, relevant, and interesting than the documentary, which, by the way, could have been done in three episodes, not the eight or ten that it was. Don’t waste your time on the documentary, listen to this!

    Garbage
Did ANYONE watch the documentary? The whole thing was botched from start to finish and all this guys ‘evidence’ was debunked in the film.
  • lekkerkontje
    Highly speculative
... bordering on irresponsible. Could have been good, thorough and with less conjecture. Unfortunately that’s not the case here. For responsible true crime investigative journalism listen to In The Dark.

    Very intriguing
I think the most significant thing to come out of this podcast for me, is the lack of evidence that she was kidnapped and the lack of evidence she was murdered by parents. It’s weird. Most of the evidence seems to be based on how the police, the Tapas 7 and the parents behaved in the aftermath of the disappearance. I’ve heard the entire podcast now and I can honestly say I don’t know what happened. Parents? Kidnapped? Still don’t know. So, to say this was a biased look at the case is simply inaccurate.
  • KTMcCardle
    Insightful!
I loved this podcast because it brings up a lot of great evidence and speculation about the parents being more involved than they claim. I hope that she gets the justice she deserves!

    WELL DONE
I thought this was a very thorough and well done investigation of the disappearance of Maddie. I had no idea how complicated it was and astounded by the law enforcement's involvement (or lack thereof). It was a clear and well written production. Had no idea about the controversies that abound. Hope there are updating episodes soon. I did not think this was an exploitive endeavor; in fact it educates people and gets the word out. This could never hurt. It is a campaign that many people embark on to help find resolution.

    Biased with no support
Most documentaries are biased but this takes it to a whole other level. Their “justifications” of why they think the parents do it, are speculative and unsupportive. I was expecting some concrete evidence but it just takes “experts” in the fields to “justify” his point of view. Lacks anything substantial.

    Thank you!
Occasionally I have thought about this little girl and what happened to her. One side, the McCann ‘s side, was well covered. The other side was not as well covered. I feel I understand the disappearance much better now.

    F-ed up
This is pretty messed up using a little girls face and story to make money on a voyeuristic podcast
  • Dani930492
    Speculative and biased
Even though the disclaimer says they aren’t suggesting the parents had anything to do with Maddie’s disappearance, the podcast does just that. I also find that some of the evidences and ‘expert’ interviews/statements presented are not particularly convincing. The longer I’m listening to it now, the more it seems to try to spin up this idea of the parents being guilty in some way and some bigger conspiracy theory regarding the whole case which doesn’t make any sense if one thinks about this logically. So the parents go on vacation with a group of friends to a country they’ve never been to, don’t know anyone, don’t speak the language, on the last day they kill their daughter or are somehow involved in her death, then in a matter of a few hours they hide the body, convince their friends to play along and help cover it up, keep the body hidden and preserved for over three weeks with media and police all around them, then use the rental car to dispose of the body. At the same time they continue mobilizing all sorts of resources to search for their daughter for over a decade. And then there is supposed to be some sort of higher political involvement to ensure focus is kept off the parents’ involvement. Seriously? Seems pretty ludicrous to me. I also feel like a lot of evidence that suggests other theories and lines of inquiry is left out here. May listen to another episode or two to see if it gets better, but you may as well skip this one.

    Informative and intelligent
One or maybe the best podcast I have ever listened too. Such in-depth and informative intelligent conversation and thought provoking analysis without bias Great job

    Disappointingly Biased
Other reviewers have already pointed out that the podcast takes a very strong point of view, i.e., that the parents are guilty. I don’t know what happened but their inferences would have been more plausible if they were able to present a real motive. They didn’t. And some of their assumptions were ridiculous. For example, they made much of the fact that some of the parents’ phone history had been deleted. They seem to assume that that was some indicator of guilt. However, I delete my record of incoming calls at least weekly for a variety of practical reasons, none of them criminal. I also delete texts on a frequent and regular basis, not to hide evidence of bad acts but to keep my phone uncluttered.

    Can’t stop listening!
    Very interesting

    Incredibly speculative
Mind blowingly irresponsible by an amateur journo trying to make a name for himself on the back of a tragedy. Literal speculation from beginning to end.

    Excellent
This is an incredibly detailed look at the case of Madeleine McCann. It’s very well done and I look forward to a new episode each week.

More investigation needs to be done into the McCanns
Interesting perspectives! More investigation needs to be done into the McCanns! Not only are they guilty of neglect (leaving 3 year olds and under in a foreign country without any supervision) but they most likely killed their daughter and are trying to cover it up. Accidentally of course, probably an od of whatever sleeping agent they were using. Another thing, hiring 3 PR people before hiring one PI to look for their child - pretty much tells it all. They were able to silence anyone who wanted to investigate them. Sad that the truth will never be found out.

So many sides to the story
I’ve learned a great deal of info from this podcast that I didn’t previously know about the case. There is a lot of info, a lot of accusations, and little evidence. BUT. If they don’t agree to have the DNA guy’s computer read the DNA data, that’s going to be super suspicious
  • Aussiemom4
    One-sided
I wanted to like this. I love true crime and thorough investigations but this is not that. The podcast starts with the disclaimer that they aren’t accusing the McCanns of wrong-doing and then go on to do just that. Rabbit hole after rabbit hole is investigated, huge assumptions are made and conspiracy theories abound. This is someone’s attempt to get back at the family for something but it is pretty transparent. I kept hoping it would get better but when they accused the family of stealing money I stopped. Terrible and shameful.

    A little one sided
Taking indirect obscure evidence and jumping to huge conclusions.

We’re Not Saying the McCanns Killed Maddie, But if They Did We’d Make a Podcast Like This!
I’m not alleging that this podcaster is full of crap and sensationalizing a kidnapping case at others’ expense... I’m just exploring theories. Since this podcast seems thoroughly researched and the podcaster seems to have a lot of knowledge of the case, I am forced to conclude that he KNOWS about the ridiculous holes in his “theories,” but wants to present them anyway to engage naive listeners. In Episode 1 he outlines a whole scenario about how scandalous it is that Jerry stated that Kate entered through the front door while Kate stated she entered through the back door... Seriously? Wouldn’t it be more of a red flag if their stories had synched precisely? Considering they weren’t even together at the time? How is this a line of inquiry? He then goes through the Robert Murat e-fit without explaining that, despite Jane Tanner’s fingering of him, the e-fit showed a long skinny face and a lanky build — which is totally incompatible with Murat’s physique. He describes the DNA in the car without explaining that, as a 50-50 mix of her parents, the forensic team can’t say whether the DNA is Maddie’s or bits and pieces from her mom and dad. He interviews writers for The Sun and The Daily Mail and presents their sensational claims as if they came from Pulitzer-winning investigating journalists. If the McCanns killed their kid and then proceeded to draw as much attention as humanly possible, spend millions of pounds, write books, and perpetuate this for over a decade, all without ever slipping up or displaying abusive parental behavior, they are the two most cold-blooded sociopaths the world has ever known. Likely that these two people — with some friends in on it — suffer from a never-before-seen level of psychopathy, or that their little girl was abducted while they were out of the house?

    Really interesting!!!
My biggest question is WHY won’t they do the DNA analysis?! The physician is clearly only “in it” for the science. Agreed that the journalist could do a better job being a little less biased. For those saying the Netflix documentary was “great” I found it contradictory. There are a lot of ... oddities to this case that I don’t understand. Would love to see Nancy Grace and True Crime Garage cover it!

You lost me with your praise of Amaral
This podcast is extremely biased. The podcaster is just giving their opinion which is just as valid as anyone else with no inside knowledge. It’s really about why they think the McCanns are guilty and not an investigation or retelling of events. Besides all that I gave it a shot and cringed multiple times. I had to give it up when he started praising Amaral. Anyone who is at all familiar with this case or Amaral from other cases knows that he is a monster. Due to presenting him as some hero means I can’t trust anything else you say.

    Guilty
For those complaining that the podcast has an undertone that the patents are guilty, it’s because they are.
  • mking98
    Repetive and speculative
This podcast is ok but it’s repetitive and really, no one has any idea what happened to this girl so it’s just all speculation. Too much credence given to so-called journalists who are really just interested in blaming the parents with no evidence so they can sell papers. I recommend the doc on Netflix over this.
  • Tara1yn
    Love it so far
This podcast does a great job of sharing and weaving together the evidence of this case with the tone of Unsolved Mysteries. So far, it has included all in one place, the info that I’ve seen before in multiple YouTube videos and podcasts.

    Enjoying this pod!
With all this talk about Maddie recently I think it’s just another good way to look at the case. I have been enjoying it!!

    🤷‍♀️
Wanted to like this as it’s so up my alley and I appreciate original reporting. Unfortunately, the format of the show is quite boring. It takes forever to get to the actual meat of the story and this could have been condensed into like 1-2 episodes... it also has a definite bias against the parents and it influenced my thoughts about the case, but since doing my own research I totally changed my mind.
  • Rubyslipper
    Misreprents itself...
Podcast claims to not be perpetuating the idea that the parents are guilty, yet claims to only be presenting the information about why they were considered guilty. but it is thickly layered with the notion that they are guilty. I think the opening statement of each episode, disclaiming that they think they are guilty is merely making a "CYA" comment for legal purposes. Also the constant replay of audio from the McCann's of the same public heartbreak they expressed is purely for dramatic effect, no empathy on the part of the podcast whatsoever. Podcast is going after ratings, and lacks heart, imo. I gave it multiple episodes in, before I deleted it.

    Excellently Accurate
Being Portuguese myself, I’ve read the police files in both Portuguese and English. Yes, all 11,000+ pages Mark and Dan this is really excellent. I’ve spoken to some of the investigators and profiler that you featured and these are outstanding human beings and professionals searching for the truth. A McCann family member boasted that they had shut down my YouTube with millions of views. I hope that in one of your following episodes you feature the extreme measures the McCann’s team have taken to shut people down. Amaral, Pat Brown, various journalists etc...all have been gagged by the McCann team Well done so far!! Isabelle McFadden

    Still Intrigued
I have eagerly been waiting for someone to create a Podcast on this fascinating yet just unbelievable story. I can’t wait for the upcoming episodes.
